What is RTI (Response to Intervention)?

RTI is a school-based system that helps identify students who may be struggling with learning or behavior—and provides the right support at the right time.

Rather than waiting for a student to "fail," RTI allows schools to catch problems early and respond quickly with targeted strategies.

Using classroom data and regular check-ins, teachers can see what each student needs and adjust instruction or provide extra help.

This approach not only helps students succeed, but also ensures that those who may need special education services are identified accurately and supported appropriately.

🟢 Tier 1 – Universal Support for All Students

Primary Prevention: Building a strong foundation.
All students receive high-quality classroom instruction and opportunities to develop social-emotional skills.
Teachers use clear goals, engaging materials, and positive routines to help students stay on track.
Most students will thrive with these everyday supports built into their regular learning environment.

🟡 Tier 2 – Targeted Support for At-Risk Students

Secondary Prevention: Extra help when needed.
Some students may need more than just the basics. Tier 2 offers small-group or short-term support that targets specific learning or behavior concerns.
These interventions are based on proven strategies and are added in addition to regular classroom instruction.
The goal is to help students catch up before challenges become more serious.

🔴 Tier 3 – Intensive Support for Individual Needs

Tertiary Prevention: Personalized intervention.
A few students may need more intensive and individualized help.
Tier 3 provides focused support that is carefully tailored to a student’s unique needs—whether in academics, behavior, or emotional development.
This level often involves one-on-one support, frequent progress monitoring, and close collaboration with families and specialists.
